'THE ODETTE SCHOOL OF BALLET' POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

‘The Odette School of Ballet’ is a safe, nurturing and encouraging environment in which students can grow and develop as confident, intelligent and artistic dancers.

  • The optimum conditions will be created in the class to allow for maximum learning. This will include teachers' professional knowledge, the syllabus work provided by the Royal Academy of Dance and the active involvement of all people present.

  • The venue will be a safe dance space with minimum risk of injury. Emma is a qualified first aid giver and there is always a first aid kit on site.

  • Students with chronic illnesses, such as epilepsy, diabetes or asthma, should have written consent from their parent or caregiver to state their use of medication during class. Children who become unwell or injured in class will have their parent or caregiver contacted to arrange early collection.

  • All dancers must arrive for class ready to learn and to dance. This includes wearing appropriate ballet attire, as outlined in the 'Uniform' section of the website. Please ensure that younger students go to the toilet before class so that time is not taken from their learning.

- Students that need to go to the toilet during will class will be accompanied to the door of the toilet but they will not be assisted inside the toilet. Please encourage your child to practice going to the toilet and putting on their leotard themselves.

  • Teaching staff and students are the only people permitted inside the dance studio during class. Parents and caregivers must drop-off and pick-up students at the allocated times. Young students must not wait outside on their own.

- Students who are permitted to walk home on their own must be given written consent to do so.

- Parents and guardians are welcome to come into the room for the first few minutes on the first day so that everyone is calm and happy. After that, parents and guardians do not stay inside the room during the class. Please make sure your child is aware of this before their first class.

  • It is of utmost importance that students are punctual and do not miss class. Absenteeism increases the risk of injury as it allows students to fall behind and possibly miss out on vital information regarding technique and choreography.

‘The Odette School of Ballet' is a fair, trusting and open atmosphere in which students will treat and be treated with dignity and respect.

  • All individuals, communities and cultures will be treated with respect. There is a no-tolerance policy toward discrimination, bullying and neglect; instead, it is a place to encourage social interaction, support and friendship.

- 'The Odette School of Ballet' takes a proactive approach to addressing inequalities and misrepresentations within the canon of traditional classical ballet.

  • All students should feel comfortable and confident in the ballet class. Emma welcomes any discussion regarding the uniform or otherwise.

  • Students should come to class with the objective to participate, learn, create and enjoy the time there. Students are expected to treat their ballet teachers with respect and dignity; and this will be reciprocated. The dance environment is one of respect, openness, appreciation and consideration for one another.

  • Each child will be safeguarded with their best interests held at the core of their dance training. Emma is Garda vetted, RAD accredited and has additional child protection training. Emma will act with honesty and integrity to maintain and promote the highest standards of dance education, teaching and learning.

The tools and guidance to enable each student to reach their full potential will be provided, to encourage good posture, skill acquisition, bodily expression and excellence.

Students will be taught, guided and recommended within the guidelines of RAD classical ballet training. Individuality and difference will be celebrated and each student will be helped to reach their full personal potential. Regarding readiness for examinations and pointe work, the final decision will always lie with Emma.
